1. Nome completo, data de nascimento e país de origem.
Complete name, date of birth e country of birth.

When, how and why you started in "practical shooting-IPSC"?

I started to shoot Olympic rifle when I was 12, and shot that until about 21. Towards the end of that time, as a student, I was working as a shooting instructor, and there was money to be made coaching IPSC. So you might say I was coaching it before I could do it very well… I began to compete to become a better instructor, and I found I really enjoyed the sport.

3. Em qual categoria começou a atirar? Qual era a sua arma na época?
In which division did you start IPSC? Which firearms did you use at the time?

I started in Standard with a 9mm CZ75 I had for self defense. Later I bought a used PARA 45 in Standard and won the Israeli Standard Nationals with it. After about 2 years I moved to Open. First year I shot with an Open Para, and since then with a BUL M-5 race gun.

Furos no cano, compensador, etc...
Today, we know that you use Bull M5 with Aimpoint. How is your gun setup? i.e. how many holes on the barrel, compensator design, short or long slide, etc…

Eu uso o slide comprido, do tamanho original e bem aliviado.
I use a full length slide, with some weight cut off it. I use an STI TRUBORE barrel, one piece barrel and comp, with an S2 STI comp. I have 3 holes in the barrel behind the comp as well.

5. Sua munição.
You ammo setup? i.e. powder brand & type, bullet type & weight.

Lapua 38S Comp brass, Winchester small pistol primers. Vit powder, N350, with a load of 7.5 grains. 124gr Berry's RN bullet, factor about 168.

To be at your present level, you must have practiced a lot. What was your practice schedule in the past few years to get to your level? i.e. rounds per week, hours per week on the range, etc…

I did not always shoot as much as I can now, it is very expensive to shoot in Israel as there is no reloading allowed and you have to shoot factory ammo. Today I train 3 times a week, and usually shoot 400-500 rounds per practice. So I would say about 12-1500 per week. In the past there have been times that I shot more, like in the months leading up to the last WS. But I feel today that this is enough, and I do not wish to spend more time on the range. I may shoot a little more in preparation for a major match. I don't shoot at all in December and January

9. E hoje, qual é a rotina de treinos? Quantos tiros em média por mês? E qual a periodicidade do seu treinamento?
Today, what is your practice schedule? How many rounds per month? How often do your practice dry fire and live fire?

Today, I shoot 3 times a week on the range. I go to the gym 3 times a week, doing mostly spinning and weights. I dry fire very little although I did a lot more in previous years. I should do more, but really don't seem to find the time for that.

Before the World Shoot, is this practice schedule different or just intensified?

Same schedule, perhaps a little more ammo per practice and a little longer. I also shoot many matches between now and WS, and that is also part of my practice and preparation. Of course, the matches and the travel time do take away from some practice sessions as well.

What do you do to cope with the Super Squad pressure? Do you do any psychological preparation?

You make it sounds like pressure is a bad thing, it is not. You need to have some pressure to shoot your best, so I welcome the challenge of the super squad. Certainly you need to be able to control your anxiety levels when you compete. If you get too stressed you cannot do as well. But, I find that experience helps a lot, and do have a lot of experience in mental aspects of performance, from my years as an Olympic rifle shooter. I feel that I can deal with the stress of competition as well as any one, and that in itself gives me confidence and relieves stress.

Erick is an extremely strong athlete and that is why he won the World Shoot twice. Since you are always competing against him in Europe and around the world, what are his strongest and weakest points?

Pontos Fracos, melhor perguntar a ele.

He is very good at pacing himself. I keeps in control all the time, does not shoot beyond his level, and so does not make any mistakes. His consistency is his strength. He is also as fast and accurate as anyone out there.
Weakness - I think you have to ask him.

For this World Shoot in 2005, do you have any surprise prepared for your rivals?

Vou me preparar e fazer o meu melhor.
Not at all. I don't believe there are any secrets of surprises. All the top shooters will come prepared and will do their best. I will prepare as best I can, and shoot the best match I can. If I shoot well, I will be pleased no matter where I end up. I know my ability well enough to know that if I shoot well, I will be ranked well too. I do not spend any time or energy thinking about the other competitors. I cannot affect their performance, so why worry about them, or try to surprise them?

14. Você tem algum ídolo no tiro?
Do you have an IPSC idol?

Idol - I don't think I have idols.. But I do have a lot of respect for Brian Enos for the progress he made in this sport, and the understanding he achieved. Same for Robi Leatham, who I think is the greatest shooter this sport has ever seen. I am a fan of Doug Koening too for his shooting skills.

In your opinion, who is the most complete shooter in the world?

R: Eric Graufel.
Eric Grauffel. I think Dave Savigney is pretty amazing too.

In all the competition you have participated, which is the most memorable?

My first WS, the Philippines was a great experience for me. I also remember fondly the 1998 Europeans in Greece, where I finished 6th, and for the first time placed in the top 10 in a major match in Europe.

17. Você pratica outros esportes? Quais?
Do you practice any other sports? Which?

Eu faço spinning e levanto pesos para manter minha forma física. Nado e pedalo as vezes.
I do spinning classes and weight (gym) for fitness training. I also swim occasionally and cycle. I scuba dive when I can, but not sure that counts…

All the fundamentas are important, but in your opinion which are the two (2) most important fundamental in IPSC?

Eu diria a precisão e o controle visual.
I would say accuracy and visual control. Being able to call your shot -always, even at high spend and every under pressure.

Porque?
What type of stage is your favorite? Why?

I like tactical stages with lots of moving targets. I like the challenge of trying to figure out the best way of shooting it. I also like long assault stages with lots of points. I enjoy shooting on the move, and planning the tactics of such a stage.

What type of stage you dislike the most? Why?

I dislike stages which test skills which have nothing to do with shooting. Like a stage in which you have to carry a dummy and place it in a certain position before shooting, I think the shooting should test shooting.

21. Diga qual patamar você pretende alcançar, qual é seu objetivo no esporte.
Tell us what level you would like to achieve, what is your objective in IPSC?

Well. Of course I would like to do as well as I possibly can in the WS. I was 5th last time, and I would like to do better than that. However, as I said before, if I shoot well, and 6 guys finish a head of me, I will still be pleased. IPSC is my sport, but also my business. So my goal are in both fields. I want to shoot well and win matches ,but I also want to maintain the best website I can, sell products, give seminars and coaching, write and publish books, and make great movies. My goal are in all these fronts.

Double-Alpha Academy offers a wide selection of IPSC courses and training options. All courses are personally instructed by Saul Kirsch, who ensures that every participant receives individual attention.
The groups are limited to a maximum of 10 students. Smaller groups and even private classes are possible. Contact us for Options.
Each course focuses on different topics. A student taking all three one-day courses will cover mostly new material in each course. It is not necessary to take "Technical 101" before the Mental or Tactical courses, but it is recommended, especially for shooters who want to improve their technical ability and knowledge. Additional advanced technical topics are covered in "Technical & Mental", as well as in "Technical & Tactical".
In addition to the full day courses, Double-Alpha offers the possibility of evening coaching in a "club" environment, shooting stages and practicing elements under full coaching supervision.
Coaching days in conjunction with competitions can also be arranged. If you are organizing a big match and would like to offer a day's coaching either before or after the match - contact us! We will be happy to work with you on this.

Technical 101
Technical 101 is by no means a beginners course. It is intended for experienced IPSC shooters who wish to improve their technical skills and expand their knowledge about the sport.
The focus of the course is technical, but we do discuss general aspect of IPSC training techniques, match preparation and stage analysis, since these are all interconnected.
This is a one day course of approximately 8 hours, 9am to 6pm with an hour break for lunch, and shorter breaks as needed. Each student will require 300 rounds of ammo.
The topics covered in this course are:
" Safety rules
" Grip, stance and balance
" Gun recoil control
" Adapting your equipment to YOU
" Accuracy in pistol shooting
" The High Ready position
" Target acquisition
" The draw, various starts
" Reloads
" Turns, specialty draws
" Moving between positions
The topics are explained, then practiced both with dry fire and live fire, with individual instruction and supervision. Each student gets feedback on his techniques, and suggestions on what and how he can improve. Practice drills are taught for each element, as well as more complex stages which combine these skills. Groups are limited to 10 students maximum to ensure individual attention and practice time.
At the end of the course, each student received a printed summary of the topics covered.

Technical & Mental
Most athletes agree that much of what they do is mental. Anyone who has experienced competition in any sport, realizes that the mental game is a big part of success or failure. In fact, some top athletes will tell you that 90% of their sport is mental. Even so, many of us spend all the time we have on improving our techniques. Never addressing the mental challenges at all. For must, the reason for this is lack of knowledge. While we all agree mental control in shooting is important, many do not know how to address this topic.
The "Technical & Mental" course covers these issues. The course includes several advanced technical topics, not covered in "Technical 101". But the main focus and time is on the mental aspect of out sport - and how you can make this work for you, to improve the probability of you having a great mental performance, under stress, on demand. This is what we all aim to achieve: Top performance when it really counts - in the big matches.
This is a one day course of approximately 8 hours, 9am to 6pm with an hour break for lunch, and shorter breaks as needed. Each student will require 250 rounds of ammo.
The topics covered in this course are:
" Safety rules
" Barricades
" Kneeling and prone positions
" Shooting on the move
" Strong hand shooting
" Weak hand shooting
" Required accuracy: what you NEED to see
" Mental management: The Conscious skills, the Subconscious skills and the self image
" Managing match stress: The mental and physical connection
The topics are explained, then practiced both with dry fire and live fire, with individual instruction and supervision. Each student gets feedback on his techniques, and suggestions on what and how he can improve. Practice drills are taught for each element, as well as more complex stages which combine these skills. Groups are limited to 10 students to ensure individual attention and practice time. Some hours of the course are spent in a comfortable lecture room, rather than in the range, as we discuss the mental topics and applications.
At the end of the course, each student receives a printed summary of the topics covered.

Technical & Tactical
IPSC is deferent from most shooting sports in that it is less repetitive. Most shooting sports require the shooter to perform the same skills, shot after shot, and match after match. Not so in our sport of IPSC. IPSC shooting presents a new challenge to the competitor each stage he shoots. Each match presents stages and challenges never before met, and often - with multiple solutions.
Because of this, match experience is so important in our game, as is the ability to analyze quickly and correctly the challenge faced, and decide the best way for YOU to resolve it. Tactical decisions are often deciding factors in international matches, where all the top runners are at very similar technical ability levels.
While this course covers some additional technical and mental topics, the focus is on tactical analysis of stages. Recognizing possible solutions, and deciding what is best for you.
This is a one day course of approximately 8 hours, 9am to 6pm with an hour break for lunch, and shorter breaks as needed. Each student will require 250 rounds of ammo.
The topics covered in this course are:
" Safety rules
" Tactical stage analysis
" Deciding YOUR game plan
" Mental rehearsal for a stage
" Activated targets: swingers, turners, movers
" Stop-watch use in IPSC
" Training effectively, preparing for match day
" Practice drills
This course is conducted in part in the range and in part in a lecture room, as some of the topics are covered by lecture. The shooting is mostly more advanced type stages, complex type stages which include tactical options to be analyzed. Also, addition training tools and techniques are discussed and practiced.
At the end of the course, each student receives a printed summary of the topics covered.

23. Sua dica para os esportistas.
      Your advice for IPSC shooters.

     ALWAYS HAVE FUN
To be a better shooter - make sure you see what you need to see on each and every shot. Don't cut corners and don't try to go faster than you can all your shots

24. Tiro pra você é?
     IPSC for you is...?

     Um estilo de vida.
     A way of life.
